Cedars-Sinai:
Guerin Children’s Hospital
2021 - 2022
Envoy created a healing space imbued with bright colors, whimsy and interactive play for the Cedars-Sinai Guerin Children’s Hospital so kids can still feel like kids while receiving care. The team crafted a narrative to support the function of the space that transports young patients and their families into a world of wonder, surprise, and delight. The result was unique experiences replete with custom characters and imagined and immersive realms brought to life, both playfully and with precision.
The complete experience is delivered in three focal points: The Workshop, The Ridiculous Parade, and Sticker Book. These experiences work together to greet, guide, and ultimately engage patients without disrupting the flow or function of the space. See the full case study by Envoy HERE.
For this installation, I developed the Playroom interactive and traveled onsite to Los Angeles to install all three experiences. The Playroom is a “Digital Sticker Book” that uses Kinect motion tracking data to allow guests to select and place stickers without needing to touch the screen, a key feature in a hospital environment. Guests can also create a stop-motion animated sticker of themselves to be part of the scene. The sticker book cycles through three scenes and randomly provides sticker options from a pool of 16 characters. Each scene has two unique surprise animation moments that interact with the placed stickers.
