Description

“Drawing with Numbers” was a prototype created for Ben Grosser and his Critical Technology Studies research group at the National Center for Supercomputing Applications in Urbana, Illinois. I created this browser-based app using p5.js in 2017; it works best on desktop browsers.

As the mouse cursor travels over a black screen, numbers increment along the path of the mouse to create a temporary image. The opacity and value of a number increases the longer a mouse remains over a spot. When the mouse moves on, the number at its previous locations begin to slowly decrement and disappear.

This drawing program was used to explore the attachment to numerical values, effects of constant user interaction, and urgency of temporary art.
