Theater Media Design Storyboard

Overview

I designed a storyboard animation sequence for the advertisement of an upcoming guest tattoo artist. Projected images and videos are displayed on the outside walls of a tattoo studio in order to attract new clients and to showcase the guest artist's work and design process. I created this storyboard animation sequence in September 2018 using Isadora and Adobe Photoshop.

Description

For this design project, I chose a tattoo artist working as a guest at a tattoo studio. I designed projections to advertise the artist to potential clients. I chose Kameeleon Tattoo (@kameeleontattoo) as my guest artist because I am drawn to his personal style of tattooing. I invented my own tattoo studio as the visual context for this piece because I wanted to use a building that had multiple large surfaces with different perspectives.

I found images and videos that highlighted the artist’s tattoos and his design process. I wanted to showcase the artistic talent of Kameeleon Tattoo and give potential clients a preview of his portfolio. I chose footage that made the tattooing process seem fun, intriguing, and inviting.

I gathered all the images, text, and videos for my project from Kameeleon Tattoo’s public Instagram account. I then edited the images and created the projection masks in Adobe Photoshop. Finally, I sequenced the animation using Isadora to create a video storyboard.

THEA 461: Intro to Media Design was a studio course focused on the skills of creating programmed images for live performance of dance, theatre, and music theatre. Development of technical skills was paralleled with an understanding of the relationship of projected images to text, performer, space, and time.
